back from being on the road again

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

I’ll be short with text and long-winded with photos today. Our little family just returned from another road trip and I’ll share some glimpses. Once again, I opted to leave the dSLR at home. It’s 100% iPhonography (all shots taken with my iPhone 4S). My favorite apps are still HERE (but I do need to update the list with newer faves).

First, I want you to know that while we love to escape the summer heat, break up the everyday routine, and visit loved ones … our business and our customers remain a high priority. We do not let things slip while we’re away. Wheels are still turning everywhere and I take extra care to be sure that everything is still in motion, all our ducks are in a row, and nothing slows down when we’re away.

We are getting very close to having sold-out products available again (but they won’t be here this week as we hoped) and I will have a full update for you later this week or at least by Monday. There are still a few things we are waiting on before I do that.

Stay tuned.

Side-of-the-road shot with amazingly perfect lighting + just the right angle + Instagram filter.

{ higgins family reunion }

We gathered with everyone in a big lodge near Monticello, Utah and spent one of our days in the fascinating and beautiful Arches National Park.

…..

{ colorado springs }

We also got to spend several days with dear friends in the beautiful state of Colorado. As always – when we spend time with awesome people – I am inspired to share several things with you from this visit … but that warrants a separate blog post later this week. Watch for that. In the meantime, some glimpses of our time there.

Remember me blogging about the Incline before?

Oh yes. I did it again. Definitely a love/hate relationship with this climb.

This is the beautiful Garden of the Gods. As we were pulling away from Colorado Springs on Saturday we spotted – unfortunately – a fire coming come from near this area. We have since learned about many acres that have been burned in Colorado Springs, and several evacuations. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by yet another wildfire. We’ve now seen several just in the last two road trips.

speaking of gratitude …

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Gratitude continues to be on my mind a lot. And now I have even more to be grateful for because I just spent a few days with some of my very dearest friends.

The destination: Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The occasion: We try to do this every year.

The secret to (9) thirty-something moms being able to do this: Amazing husbands and families who are supportive of our yearly girl time.

The best part of it all: I come home exhausted and yet completely refreshed. I am grateful for friends who uplift and inspire me. We all love motherhood. We all adore our husbands. This isn’t about escaping our lives at home. This is about reconnecting, reminiscing, laughing our heads off, and just plain having fun.

And it always, always feels best to come back home.

………….

We missed the peak of Fall colors, but Colorado Springs is beautiful and the weather was perfect. We spent a lot of time outdoors (thanks to our hostess with the mostest who happens to be the athlete of the group). I even experienced about 12 miles of mountain-biking for the first time and l-o-v-e-d it.

(We got a few cell phone pictures. No trekking around with an actual camera.)

Another big personal highlight was making it to the top of “The Incline” in Manitou Springs, CO. While it’s not literally vertical, it sure the heck felt like it. My sea-level lungs were not used to that altitude but it was sooo worth the climb.

I’ll claim the glow-in-the-dark legs on the far left. Those legs climbed over 2,000 feet, reaching an 8,595-foot elevation. Which is why we felt okay busting out the chocolate later on.

We can’t get together without some sort of creating or crafting. That’s part of what brought us together 8 years ago. My main project was putting together a couple floral arrangements for our friend who hosted everyone in her beautiful home. Isn’t this pot terrific?

And we helped her with a little mantel makeover. We found everything (pots, flowers, mirror, decor) at Hobby Lobby … and it was all 50% off so woo-hoo for that.

…………..

Anyway — I’m happily back to “regular” life again and will soon be sharing …
