Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

I recently got a family necklace like this one shown, for someone in my life whose family is dealing with some heavy, challenging things. I love the design and I can’t wait to give it to her as a symbol of what and who is most important in her life.

This is open to anyone, anywhere (even if you are outside the U.S.). Be sure to explore her shop and see many of my fashionable pieces, as well as the customizable designs.

To enter for a chance to win, simply leave your first name, city, state or country and a randomly selected winner will be announced tomorrow in the Feedback Friday post.

honoring women + another giveaway

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Happy Mother’s Day — to you mothers, yes. But also to you women who are not necessarily biological mothers. You are women of influence. Whether or not you realize it, your role as a woman is critical.

Every. Single. One of you.

When you make the effort to cultivate a good life — through your work, your example, your service, your nurturing — you make this world a better place. I hope each one of you feels loved. I hope you are able to recognize the good you are doing. I hope you recognize that every hug you give, every kind word, every ounce of sacrifice … it all counts. You are a blessing.

I am so completely grateful to be a mother. And I feel indebted to my own mother, my mother-in-law, my grandmothers, and other remarkable women who came before me. I also feel so blessed to have been so positively influenced by the examples of so many other women in my life as well — some of you dear friends who are reading this.

Sending you a big cyber hug today — super awesome women everywhere.

……….

giveaway: personalized jewelry

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

First of all, congratulations to the winner of my bracelet giveaway: Kim in Mission, Texas! Shoot an email to projectlife@beckyhiggins.com and I’ll send that to you. Some of you will love to read what she’s doing to make a difference, and how this bracelet is being put to good use:

“I would most definitely donate it to Cinderella’s Closet. I am the director of it and it is a ministry/outreach program of my church. We are a non-profit and our mission is to provide formal gowns and accessories FREE of charge to Junior and Senior high school girls who could not otherwise afford to attend their prom/formal. We collect donated dresses/gowns that are in excellent condition and accessories and turn our Living Faith Center into a beautiful boutique for these girls who are referred to us to shop for the perfect dress! But, we are MORE than a dress, we provide an amazing and wonderful experience and treat these girls with love, respect, kindness, and encouragement. We feel that by staying in school and doing what is expected of them, despite whatever hardships or circumstances they are facing, they have earned that right to attend their Jr. and Sr. prom/formal. This will be our first year and we are so excited to welcome these girls and treat them like the Princesses they are. ”

Isn’t that so cool? Love what you’re doing Kim.

Speaking of jewelry, check this out. So pretty. So personalized.

Etsy shop owner Lisa Lehmann wants to give away $50 of store credit to TWO of my readers. Check out her etsy shop thebeadgirl. Her website is StudioJewel.com but she tells me the etsy shop is always the most updated. Enter here for a chance to win $50 worth of her beautiful jewelry. Just let us know the usual — first name, city, state. The randomly-selected winners will be announced Saturday.

…..

Happy Spring! (for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere) Something about the weather change means organization is on my brain. For some reason, I’ve never really “organized” my jewelry but that’s what I was recently in the mood to tackle. So I went on a little field trip, found these EVA brand drawer organizers at The Container Store, and got to work.

I already had a jewelry case, which I found at Razmataz about 5 years ago. It has been home to my accessories, but the drawers were cluttered and messy and I was easily forgetting what I had. The necklaces, however, have always been easy to keep organized on the hooks that came with this piece. The best thing about hanging necklaces is that it prevents potential tangling.

I got a few different configurations of EVA organizers to go in my drawers. For small earrings …

Larger earrings …

Bracelets and cuffs and watches …

And along the way, I came across things I kinda forgot about. I also came across plenty of items to donate. Some to my five-year-old daughter who is suddenly into jewelry (she is loving the “new” treasures!), and some to Deseret Industries, where we donate most of our unwanted items. And ONE of those things I’m donating to one of you!

Anyone interested in this little number? I made it myself years ago. It was one of my very first attempts at making jewelry and it is still intact. If you’re interested, leave your first name, city, state, and tell me if you want it for yourself, a loved one, a charity, or what. I’ll announce a winner on Wednesday this week.

Oh, and one last note on the topic of jewelry, because I know the question will come up: Where do I find my favorite pieces? Some of my all-time faves are from traveling, since I like to pick up a little something whenever we go somewhere new & different. I’m also partial to pieces that others have made for me … such sweet gestures. I’ve found some really fun things at boutiques too. Forever 21, Target … I don’t know. Just random places. I never spend very much for any one piece. Not my style.

giveaway week

Monday, March 14th, 2011

*** This post has been edited. I just learned that giveaways on facebook are not allowed. So instead of a week-long “facebook giveaway” the giveaways will happen right here on my blog. A huge thank-you to Jessica Turner who was thoughtful enough to let me know about the restrictions that I was not aware of. Lesson learned. Now I know. ***

Hello there!

Today we’re launching a big giveaway here on my blog. Every day this week I’ll announce a new giveaway and every day I’ll announce at least one randomly-selected winner. I do giveaways for two reasons: 1) It’s a fun way to share fun finds with you.  2) It’s a fun way to help other small businesses get a boost in their exposure.

Yay for win-wins.

…..

I’m pleased … no … I’m thrilled to kick off this week-long giveaway with something really special. Talented jewelry artist Angela Bannatyne has designed custom pieces especially for us Project Lifers! Presenting …

The Amber Edition:

And the Turquoise Edition:

And yes, there are even coordinating earrings:

Isn’t that just the coolest? She created these pieces based on the color pallets of the current 2011 editions of Project Life. Not only are they gorgeous, but when you wear them, you’re reminded of how awesome you are for cultivating a good life and recording it.  ; )

…..

You can check out Angela’s Avenue {A} site and her etsy shop to see more. And this is the direct link to the Project Life inspired items in her shop. Super affordable and absolutely beautiful. Plus, she loves one-of-a-kind pieces so there will be slight variations as well. I suspect these will sell out fast so if they do, check back. Angela has more supplies on the way and will be making more available soon.

I bet you’d like a chance to win one of these gorgeous Project Life bracelet & earrings sets, wouldn’t you? Leave your first name, city, state, and which version you’d love to have — Amber or Turquoise. You’re always welcome to nominate someone too.

…..

A very special thank-you to Angela for creating Project Life inspired jewelry with my readers & customers in mind. That’s just the coolest thing and I so appreciate her sharing her talents with us.

3 words or less: part 3

Friday, March 26th, 2010

First, you guys are killing us … me and Kara Layne. How on earth are we going to choose a winner for the photo shoot? I will say this: Kara Layne says let’s get rid of that rule about having a maximum of 5 people! We don’t want to eliminate a family from the running because they have an extra person or two.

We will announce a winner on Monday.
