First of all, photographer Kara Layne is giving away a Project Life kit over on her blog. In fact, she’s been celebrating her birthday with a giveaway each day this week. How fun is that? —– Also, for those of you scrapbookers who love your stuff, ExpressTheMoment.com has some fun kits they’ve put together. They’re giving away one of each of these collections. Want to enter for a chance to win the Project Life kit? Head over to Kara Layne’s blog here. Kara asks a profound question and invites you to answer in your comment. Very, very touching responses so far. Totally worth reading, whether you enter or not. It will cause you to think about pictures you take. And pictures you should take. Want to enter your name for one of the ETM kits? Leave your name, city, and state in the Comments of this post and just for fun, simply tell us how long you’ve been scrapbooking (or card-making or paper-crafting…). Four randomly selected winners will be announced Monday. busted. and a deserving winner.Monday, March 29th, 2010Claire broke our point & shoot camera a few weeks ago. Dropped it pretty hard, I guess. Anyway, I finally got around to looking at the last pictures before “the incident”. These are just a few of the dozens of pictures she took. Pictures of herself in the mirror, and every random thing around the house. Hey. I’m all for letting kids express creativity and develop skill behind the lens at an early age. I just need to monitor it a little closer next time so that it doesn’t result in another broken camera. Speaking of photography … are you wondering about the photo shoot give-away? Would you like to know who won?? Oh, ye blog-reading people. This was haaaard. I need to stick to random drawings because choosing a winner this way was not only very emotional, but pretty torturous to choose just one family. But alas — Kara Layne and I would like to congratulate … MARIANNE in Scottsdale! Marianne mentioned their family has not done a family photo since her husband died, and “it would be great to have a photo of what our family is now. Just because he is gone doesn’t mean we’re not a family anymore. The saddest thing is before he died we kept saying we needed a family photo and kept putting it off. We never got more than some amateur shots before he died.” Marianne, please consider yourself hugged and know that we love you. Email kara@karalayne.com and you guys can work out the details of your mini session. If you are a professional photographer or you know someone who might be interested in doing a complimentary photo shoot like this for a deserving (and local-to-you) family … send an email to customerservice@beckyhiggins.com and let’s do another give-away like this! It’s just too much fun to make someone’s day. : ) need some updated family pictures?Thursday, March 25th, 2010First of all, very interesting discussion from yesterday’s post on scrapbooking systems. It’s so interesting to read about what everyone’s doing, what’s working and not working for you. And I definitely need to address more on this again. We can really help each other and inspire each other. Now … I have some good news. No, this isn’t just good. This is someone’s-gonna-be-really-stoked news. Someone reading my blog right now and leaving their name in the Comments is going to be chosen to have their family photographed by the wonderful Kara Layne. I learned about Kara Layne only last year and she’s right in our neck of the woods. She photographed our family last Fall and I just adore her skill and her style. She captured our little family beautifully. Kara Layne’s blog also happens to be one that I frequent. Actually, I don’t think I’ve missed a post since I met her. She’s not only full of photographic inspiration, but she’s a captivating writer, a devoted wife and mother, an entrepreneurial spirit, and trying to balance everything like we all are. Bottom line: She inspires. I know many of you browsing the Internet right now are browsing for inspiration. The bummer news? This one’s really just for locals. Kara Layne is in the Phoenix area — northwest valley, to be specific. So whoever wins this photo shoot needs to travel to her for the photo shoot. So before you rush to leave your name in the comments, here’s what you need to know: 1. You will get a free mini session which would include 45 minutes of shooting 2. You will get your choice of 10 “master images” on disc (fully edited, high res files) 3. This shoot can include up to five people 4. You have to travel to Kara Layne in the northwest Phoenix area (Peoria, Glendale area) for the photo shoot. Why am I doing this? Why is Kara Layne doing this? We both believe in story-telling. We want someone to receive the gift of beautiful photographs to aid in documenting your family’s story. So if you’re in Arizona and ready for some new family pictures, here’s your chance to have someone amazing behind the camera, on your behalf, for free. Leave your first name, your city, and maybe even a quick reason why you must, must, must be the winner. : ) Good luck! five things to read this weekendFriday, February 5th, 2010For your weekend reading pleasure … these are all quick but insightful & inspiring reads. Each has invoked personal reflection and assessment and so I’m passing them along to you. Happy Weekend! 5. Kara Layne: Questions, Answers, and Stories 4. Zen Habits: How Not to Hurry 3.
