Congratulations to Mickee in Amercian Canyon, CA. You have a free seat in Anna Aspnes’ online class! Email anna_aspnes@yahoo.com and she’ll hook you up.

…………………….

Hope everyone enjoys a lovely or productive or relaxing or exciting or playful weekend … whatever you’re hoping it will be. For Halloween, I’m thinking about being a two-headed something with David, based on this inspiration by Claire.

photo challenge results: minimalist shots

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

First of all … have you browsed through the comments left on yesterday’s post about what everyone’s little traditions are for family meal time? I love seeing how so many of us value this family time and totally enjoyed reading so many similarities and definitely the unique rituals as well. So fun!

Congratulations to Brek who was randomly selected. She said: “It has become tradition in the last month for our boys (3rd grade and kindergarten) to tell us which girls they chased at recess. Its hilarious!” Brek, shoot an email to customerservice@beckyhiggins.com and we’ll get you hooked up with a free 3-month membership with e-mealz.

Last week I shared a photo challenge: Take a picture that has a whole lot of nothing and a little bit of something. Try something minimalist through the lens of your camera. As usual, I was really inspired by your submissions. Today I’m sharing my top 10 favorites with you, hoping that you too will feel inspired to try something different with your camera this week.

Photo by Ellie. Taken with the purpose of making a Grandparents Day card, which simply meant adding text. PS: I noticed Ellie used my handwritten font. If you haven’t downloaded that for your own use, it’s still available & still free. You can find it on the sidebar of our Free Stuff section.

Photo by Tracy. Seriously, could this be more precious? Love the pop of color in contrast with the stark white.

—–

Photo by Colleen. She says this shot reminds her of the song lyrics most of us have heard before: “I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean.” I love how it reminds me how small we all really are.

—–

Photo by Rhonda. She took this of her friend’s daughter – Lucy. Love the golden tones & freckles.

—–

Photo by Emilie. Taken in Wildwood, New Jersey. Don’t you just breathe better looking at a picture with all that sky?

—–

Photo by Adele. She calls her subject “our Favorite Little Bit”.  ; )

—–

—–

Photo by Cindy. Her husband and daughter enjoying a beautiful day in Colorado.

—–

Photo by Kate in Australia. I love how you have to look at it an extra couple seconds to see their silhouettes. I imagine they’re a family.

If someone was to make me choose a favorite, impossible as it seems, I’d choose THIS one:

Photo by Kelsey. Shot this of her daughter Reganne this past Winter. Love how this composition shows more of the journey and not just a girl walking in snow. Kelsey, I am hooking you up with a Project Life kit — congratulations!

Remember: Project Life is on sale right now! $10 off the kit through the end of the month. Which is tomorrow. Don’t miss this chance to save some money on one of the most worthwhile projects you’ll ever do. And grab a couple more for gifts.

learn how to design your own blog

Friday, August 27th, 2010

I have to tell you, reading through all of the comments in the last post was one of my favorite things to do this week. I love getting tiny glimpses into your lives. We have so much in common with each other. And yet – there was a vast contrast between many of the what-I-am-doing-today anecdotes.

Congratulations to Marianne! You were randomly selected to win a 3-month subscription to e-Mealz! Drop us an email at customerservice@beckyhiggins.com and we’ll hook you up. Marianne said, “Today I’m going to have an ultrasound as I’ve found a lump in my breast. I’m extremely nervous & am praying that everything is ok.” Marianne, I pray that you have either received good news or that you’re able to stay strong if the results aren’t ideal .

As for everyone else, here is a code you can use to get a discount on an e-Mealz plan: savemoney. Just click here to learn more about e-Mealz or to get started. Our family is enjoying it so far. I seriously love the break from planning the meals and making the shopping list. Plus, we’re trying new recipes on a regular basis now. And they’re super simple.

This is what we had for dinner last night: Pecan-roasted pork tenderloin. Thoroughly enjoyed it. (Plate adorableness is from Target.)

By the end of the class you’ll have a super cute, updated blog that includes all sorts of customized features. And of course, new knowledge to change it whenever you’d like! How’s that for cool?

This new class called Blog Design Basics for Blogger that is going to be launching August 30th at www.jessicasprague.com. To learn more and to see some of their sample blog designs, click here.

PS – I have to mention one of my favorite eye-candy-kind-of-posts ever. Kristina shared a whole bunch of ah-dor-a-ble prints she found on etsy and put them all in one, happy post. I was totally inspired. I think I even mentioned the link on twitter & facebook, but if you’ve got little ones — or need a gift idea — check out her etsy finds here.

Okay, so if you’d like a *free seat* in this cool class, leave your first name and where you live in the comments. A randomly selected winner will be announced on Monday.

busted. and a deserving winner.

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Claire broke our point & shoot camera a few weeks ago. Dropped it pretty hard, I guess. Anyway, I finally got around to looking at the last pictures before “the incident”. These are just a few of the dozens of pictures she took.

Pictures of herself in the mirror, and every random thing around the house. Hey. I’m all for letting kids express creativity and develop skill behind the lens at an early age. I just need to monitor it a little closer next time so that it doesn’t result in another broken camera.

Speaking of photography … are you wondering about the photo shoot give-away? Would you like to know who won?? Oh, ye blog-reading people. This was haaaard. I need to stick to random drawings because choosing a winner this way was not only very emotional, but pretty torturous to choose just one family. But alas — Kara Layne and I would like to congratulate …

MARIANNE in Scottsdale!

Marianne mentioned their family has not done a family photo since her husband died, and “it would be great to have a photo of what our family is now. Just because he is gone doesn’t mean we’re not a family anymore. The saddest thing is before he died we kept saying we needed a family photo and kept putting it off. We never got more than some amateur shots before he died.”

Marianne, please consider yourself hugged and know that we love you. Email kara@karalayne.com and you guys can work out the details of your mini session.

If you are a professional photographer or you know someone who might be interested in doing a complimentary photo shoot like this for a deserving (and local-to-you) family … send an email to customerservice@beckyhiggins.com and let’s do another give-away like this! It’s just too much fun to make someone’s day. : )
