The Guy Behind BeckyHiggins.com
I've been fascinated with design since I was a little boy. Back then it was all about exploring new ways I could use my creativity - drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. During my later years in high school I started down the path to become an architect. I could've become an architect had I continued down that path, but I realized that I had a stronger passion for branding. In 2000 I got a job with a small creative company called Sundog Creative, where I mostly did prepress work in the beginning of my 4 years with them. My position quickly morphed into creating logos, brochures, and websites for our clients.
In 2005 I was offered a job by a software company (Arkona - later acquired by DealerTrack) to clean up their brand image and maintain it as their sole in-house designer. I loved coming into a company that was growing (they were at about 100 employees when I started) and had a great solution for their customers, but they did not look as professional on the outside as they were on the inside. Their website was ugly and their print materials were inconsistent with each other. During my 2 years with the company, I redesigned and built a new website and redesigned all of their print materials (brochures, trade show banners, internal documentation, etc.). I was enjoying my job and the people I worked with. But I was getting overwhelmed with requests from other clients wanting my services and servicing them in the evening hours was becoming difficult. I had to make a choice. I knew this was a choice that a lot of people toy with in their mind, so I started to document my journey from employee to entrepreneur on BusinessBrink.com. Sadly, I had less and less time take the time to document this journey until I eventually left it to the side (I hope to be able to pick it back up in the future).
In 2007 I left my day job to build my own business, Brandistry, which focuses on helping clients create strong, effective brand strategies. Then, in the summer of 2008 I met a talented programmer (Rick Meredith) and together we formed a company called Cambio Labs, which focuses on providing online solutions for businesses nation-wide. We continue to grow our business in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains in Vineyard, Utah.
Becky asked me to help with her website a few years back and I have enjoyed being able to work with her on her website and logo ever since. And since we've known each other for a long time (I'm one of Becky's brothers), I'm able to take her sketches and know exactly what she wants to have happen.
