Overview

Project Life is a way to capture your memories a format that is simple, pre-designed, and ready for you to add your personal photos and stories. The end result is a professionally-designed book that looks like you spent a lot of time on it, but in reality, Project life is the simplest form of scrapbooking around.

Top 5 Reasons You Will Love Project Life:

5. Save time. Save stress.

The organization and design that is Project Life is already figured out for you. Different from traditional scrapbooking, there is no stress about where to place photos, which papers to use, techniques to incorporate, products to coordinate. The work is done. You just add your photos and journaling.

4. No more guilt.

Gone are the days that you feel bad about not doing something with your pictures or your kids' pictures. Now you can actually get those pictures off the computer and into a format that can be enjoyed. Project Life makes photo-displaying story-telling fun and easy.

3. Improve your skills.

Knowing that your pictures and memories are going to be preserved and enjoyed in Project Life, you will naturally improve your photography and writing skills.

2. Incredible value.

Nowhere else can you find this kind of value for everything that you get. The scrapbooking kit is full of beautifully coordinated products that would cost so much more if purchased as individual components. The digital book is also a great value, as you don't need any software or special tools.

1. It's therapeutic.

Whether you add a picture on a daily basis or simply highlight a few favorite shots per month, you will likely find yourself more tuned into to your surroundings, priorities, habits, and blessings.

Project Life is for...

  • The person who loves taking pictures but doesn't do anything with them.
  • Anyone who sees traditional scrapbooking as way too expensive.
  • The parent who would like to make scrapbooks for his or her kids but there's just not enough time.
  • The new mom who wants to record her baby's growth on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
  • The family that is interested in doing a bonding, memorable project together.
  • The single adult who is looking for a way to preserve their life happenings.
  • The teenager who wants to showcase their pictures.
  • The engaged or newlywed couple who should be preserving this most unique and wonderful time of starting their life together.
  • The expectant mother who would want to record all of the changes she's going through and share these feelings through words & pictures.
  • The teacher who is has a desire to record the funny, frustrating, growing experiences that she has in her classroom.
  • The traveler who needs a place to put their photographs and written experiences together in one place.
  • The small business owner, entrepreneur, artist, or anyone who is on a professional journey.
  • The person who has never ever scrapbooked in their life.
  • The seasoned scrapbooker who has spent too much on supplies and too many hours trying to "keep up".
  • The person who claims to not have a creative bone in thier body.

Don't think you do much to write about or photograph?

Think again. What you consider to be mundane and ordinary is actually a collection of very cool & unique factors of your life. Not someone else. YOU. Still think you're life isn't worth recording? Then let this project be the motivating factor to get out there and do something! Go for a walk (with your camera). Host a dinner party. Fly a kite. Try a new restaurant. Re-decorate a room.

How cool would it be to see an album like this from a year in your parents' or grandparents' life? Can you imagine reading their daily musings and seeing pictures of their "mundane habits"?

Kit vs. Digital

The two versions of Project Life are the tangible scrapbooking kit and the digitally-created photo book. One of these may be a better fit for your lifestyle and your personal taste. Here's a look at both offerings.

Common features of the 2 versions: Overall concept, organization, pre-designed, solution based, excellent quality, and not limited to any specific year.

Inspiration

Whether you choose the scrapbooking kit or the digital version, here are a variety of approaches for how you could document your life with Project Life.

Note: The examples that are shown are from using the kit but the concepts also apply to the digital format.

  • Picture-a-Day.

Take a picture on each of the 365 days this year.

    Picture-a-Day
  • All About You.

All the focus is on your child or other loved one.

  • Self-Portraits.

Self-explanatory. A picture of you doing something every day of the year.

  • Family Journal.

The whole family is involved in Project Life and contributes their pictures & journaling to the album. Leave the camera accessible to all. Even if it means your three-year-old is taking pictures of the toilet. What a great way to capture everyone's perspective! You could even set up a schedule so that you take turns for each day or week or month.

    Family Journal
  • Month-by-Month Review.

Showcase your favorite highlights and photos a month at a time, whether you do this with one layout or more.

  • Weekly or Monthly Themes.

Pick a topic to focus on each week or month. For example, one week might be pictures at work, another week might be errands, another might be clothes you wear, and then food you eat, and then technology you love, etc.

  • All About Me.

Whether you are an adult or a child or teenager, you focus completely on what makes up your life (what you wear, what you eat, what you love, where you go, who you hang out with, where you work, why you do what you do)

  • Family circle journal.

Combine efforts with your extended family, having each person or family take responsibility for a layout or a handful of layouts. Put it all together in one Project Life album and you have an awesome gift for grandparents!

  • All-time Favorite Photos.

Pack the album full of your favorite pictures, whether they're ones passed down to you from your grandparents or the snapshot you just took this week.

  • Home Sweet Home.

Focus on every little detail of the place you call home, inside and out.

  • Smorgasbord.

Your Project Life album can be a melting pot for several different approaches mentioned in this section. Don't be afraid to mix it up! When it's all said and done, it's still a defining snapshot of your life.

  • Pregnancy.

  • Baby's First Year.

Revolutionized the way I document my family's story.

"I can't say enough good things about Project Life! I am willing to admit that I bought the kit intending for it to be a Project for 2010 only and was doing it mostly for fun. I didn't really think that it would revolutionize the way I documented my family's story. Only 17 days in, and I have totally changed my tune. Now I truly understand how essential it is to my family's history. Thanks so much Becky for helping me document this time in my life!"

Allowing me to do a book about Ella before we lose her.

"My Project Life started when my daughter Ella was born with a chromosomal disorder. She has a very short life expectancy and we didn't expect Ella to live more than a week. Amazingly enough, she is still with us and now is 3 months old. Each day with Ella is a blessing. She is my inspiration for Project Life. I have three other children so my time is limited and all I want to do is hold Ella. Project Life will be simple and easy for me to put together for her and the product is so cute. Thanks for providing such a wonderful product to make my life easier."

Manageable for busy moms like me.

"You are making scrapbooking manageable for busy moms and that is such a priceless gift! I have a baby due in two months and I'm thrilled to have a solution to stay on top of things once I attempt to juggle three kids."

Finally getting photos out of my boxes and into an album.

"I have boxes and boxes of photos from my wedding until now. It is so overwhelming that it has at times kept me up at night! The concept of Project Life finally gave me the structure I needed to get the photos out of the boxes and into an album in an organized, efficient, and creative way without spending hours on just one layout. I am so grateful that Becky has created such a unique product and I think now I will finally sleep well again knowing my family's memories have not been forgotten!"

Project Life helped me to be a more positive person.

"2009 turned out to be a challenging year in many ways for our family. However, I realized with taking photos of the things I love and appreciate each day, how blessed we are. I dare say, Project Life changed me and has made me a more positive person. My youngest son of three will be undergoing open heart surgery this March. We will continue to find and document our blessings this year as we undergo some challenges."

Working on this together is a blessing to our family.

"This has been a family project for us really. I have 4 girls (3 yrs to 8 yrs) and they all know about Project Life and have helped me. Sometimes they had a story for me and sometimes we would just sit and read the entries aloud together and review the year. The process has been as valuable as the product for our family. Thank you Becky for creating something that has been such a blessing to our family."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I'm just learning about Project Life. I love the picture-a-day concept, but do I have to start January 1st or it it flexible enough to start at any time?

A: The format of Project Life is flexible for anyone to start at anytime and add pictures and journaling as often as you want. You could do a year's worth of pictures based on an anniversary or birthday instead of a calendar year. Some folks are recording their pregnancy with daily pictures and others are basing their year on when school starts. There are so many ways to do it!

Q: Is this product specific to 2010?

A: Nope! Nothing in the product locks you into 2010. Both versions offer 2010 as well as many other years in case you do want to specify the time period for your specific project. And I DO recommend that you date your project. (There is a date stamp in the scrapbooking kit and month & year clip art in the digital version.)

Q: Will Project Life really be an accurate representation of my life?

A: This answer comes based on my experience of traditional scrapbooking for many, many years. This approach of taking a picture-a-day has resulted in our family's story is being told so much more accurately and completely than any other scrapbooking I have ever done. (I have 52+ albums FULL of story-telling, memory-keeping scrapbook pages.)

Think of how many friends and family members you have that are not doing anything with their pictures. From what you know about Project Life and the flexibility to either do a picture-a-day or a picture-a-week or a few favorite shots each month, or however you want to use it... can you see how Project Life will help people to actually do something with their pictures? That said, Project Life is an option. There are lots of options for memory-preserving, picture-displaying, family history-keeping, and story-telling. I offer Project Life as a possible solution for you. And your friends.

Q: So if I'm doing the picture-a-day approach, what on earth am I supposed to be taking pictures of. I don't have much excitement in my life.

A: No matter how routine and boring you think your life is, there is so much that you can capture in any given day. The point is that you get a variety of pictures to accurately capture your life right now as it is. (The best part is that you don't have to take them all at once!) Here are some random ideas to get your wheels spinning:

  • your computer (complete with post-it notes)
  • the view from your driver seat in the car
  • the pile of dishes... or laundry
  • inside your refrigerator
  • your toothbrush
  • a favorite room in the house
  • a pile or closet or landscaping project awaiting your attention
  • your mailbox
  • a sentimental piece of jewelry
  • the bikes in the garage
  • the street sign on the corner of your neighborhood
  • local grocery store, gas pump, bank, fast-food joint
  • the shoes you're wearing today
  • your phone
  • a display of pictures on your wall
  • your backyard
  • your handwritten grocery list
  • your co-workers
  • the alarm clock that wakes you up every morning
  • where you exercise

I know some of these seem silly and even boring, but think about it. Think about these seeing pictures of these little details 20 or 40 years ago and what they would have looked like. Things change. This Project Life is your time capsule. It's all important. Nothing's boring.

Q: Becky, What about all of your sketches? Are you ditching all of that for digital Project Life concepts? Really?

A: Yes... and no. Welcome to my personal evolution. I've been heavily involved in the hobby of picture-taking and memory-keeping since I was a child. And my approach & strategy & theory has evolved over time. It's natural. And I love it. I've loved every stage. This happens to be my current approach to scrapbooking. it's liberating & exciting for not only me, but clearly many of you too. I am so solution-minded these days. It's what I care about. Creating solutions that help you & me both.

As for the "no" part of my answer... No, I'm not ditching the sketches. I am so happy that my sketches have helped so many with their scrapbooking over the years. And they've helped me too. And I will continue to refer to my sketches when doing layouts for the kids' baby books and other creative projects.
