Mayo?? I have never tried it that way. I do however love the one made with butter, sugar and bananas…mmmmmmm
I can’t bring myself to try the mayo & banana…
I prefer Sandwich thins with thin layer of Nutella & banana slices. yum!
Loved the picture..I have not tried it with Mayo either. I stick with peanut butter most of the time. Although I have heard my friends say that almond butter also tastes good.
Thanks
Banu
I have never heard of mayo and banana. But I have some of these sandwich thins in the fridge and I just may have to try this at lunch along with my yogurt!
I’ve never heard of mayo before, we use peanut butter and make them toasted.
Nutella & banana
Peanut butter & banana
Peanut butter with honey & banana
Almond butter & banana
Peanut butter & dill pickles
But have never tried the mayo. Hmmmmm, I always tell my kids they have to try something before saying they don’t like it. So I will try it. ;o)
I have tried it with mayo. An old boyfriend use to make peanut butter, banana AND mayo sandwhiches. Those of you that haven’t tried it with mayo take a leap and try it. The mayo gives it just a little tang and is pretty good.
We live to use Miracle Whip instead of Mayo. Add the peanut butter and you have a great sandwich
Peanut butter, banana and marshmallow fluff is a favorite at our house
I’ve done pb and banana even nutella and banana but never mayo and banana. Even with this gorgeous photo, you don’t have me convinced. BTW, I love those deli flats too. YUM!
Mayo, huh? Well I guess it’s not that uncommon looking at the comments, but, I’ll just take your word for it.
Thank you for the inspiration this morning! Though mine had wheat bread, chunky peanut butter, banana and honey.. I never would have thought of it had I not read your post!
Peanut butter on one side, mayo on the other: banana slices on whichever side you want and then put together. That’s a southern delicacy!
Mayo? I’m not sure if I could do it. We are more of the peanut butter, banana, marshmallow fluff.
I can’t believe another human eats mayo and banana….my mom always sliced a banana lengthwise and spread mayo on each slice, then sprinkled walnuts on top. I thought she was crazy, but if others eat it, maybe it’s not so insane!
I grew up eating these! My dad loved them and so do I. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.
I’ve been eating these for years. I love them! People always look at me strangely when I tell them I love banana and mayo sandwich, but just like any other salty/sweet combination, it is really good. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who likes these!
Just butter/marg. and mashed bananas…that’s all you need (sorry but mayo sounds yucko!). Takes me right back to my childhood every time!
Something I will never be able to try since I’m not a mayo fan, but my daughter is going to give it a go tomorrow. She’s always up to trying something new.
Cousin Becky,
It has to be from the Johnson side because my dad still eats them all the time! plus slaw and mayo are on everything back east! By the way, still hoping for a digital copy of some family photos!
My fave banana sammy is banana, peanut butter and chocolate chips-GRILLED. My mouth is watering!
not sure bout the mayo but i have banana on bread or toast with a little bit of jam on it…..
I grew up eating peanut butter, mayo, and iceberg lettuce sandwiches. I’ll have to give the banana and mayo combo a try!
Oh Yeah!! I love banana, mayo and peanut butter. My dad eats banana and mayo, this is one sandwich that I grew up on and continue to eat as an adult. My husband thinks my combination is gross but my thought is, he is missing out on a good sandwich.
Just bought some Nutella today so my sandwich will be banana and Nutella which I am sure it will be good because I just made banana bread and when it came out of the oven I spread nutella on top of my slice and ate it, it was amazing!!!!
Finally!!! A woman after my own heart. being a Georgia girl I was raised on banana and mayo sandwiches and get looks all the time when I make them for myself. If you love banana and mayo combo you might also love pear salads….which include canned barlett pear halves, topped with a dollop of mayo and shredded cheese. (cheese must be freshly grated) My husband choked each time I ate them and after three years finally tried it and now request them!
Georgia girl here too! just re-read your post. I had forgotten about the pears with mayo and shreed cheese. Wonderful! Also, have you ever tried sliced bananas, with mayo and maraschino (sp?) cherry juice mixed & poured over the bananas?!!
Mayo is definitely a southern thing. We loved banana sandwiches for breakfast and mom would mix mayo with cream cheese and sugar and top pears with that. YUM. Thanks for bringing up memories.
Another Georgia girl (now transplanted to TX) chiming in…I LOVE banana and mayo sandwiches…I also love tomato and mayo sandwiches, that’s all-sliced tomato and mayo!! Add pineapple and mayo as another good one!
Another Southern girl here – I LOVE tomato and mayo sandwiches, pb and banana and the pear “salad” with mayo and cheese….so I have GOT to try the mayo and banana. It’s a new one to me! Can’t wait to test it out
My kids and husband think I am absolutely crazy when I eat a banana sandwich. Love them!
LOVE banana sandwiches – I do 1 thing different though – one side of the bread has mayo, the other peanut butter. Don’t knock it until you try it! Everyone says yuck – but if I make one for them everyone likes it!
Yes!! I’ve had these for years!! It is sooo delicious!!! I also put slices of bananas on a toasted pita bread with tuna & mayo. YUM!!!
How about another new recipe?
YUM! I am so glad I am not the only person in the world who likes these. I am still trying to sway my kiddos into trying them.
Hmmm, and I thought this was a north-south thing… Being from the North, I grew up on butter and Banana or peanut butter and banana on toast. In the south, where I now live, people turn their noses up to the suggestion of the “northern way”, but instead they prefer miracle whip & banana. I’ve never tried it that way because I prefer my miracle whip with tomatoes!
The mayo is the southern way.
I ate these as a child and they are wonderful. I made some for my college dorm buddies and they loved them!
